Big brands are killing the planet by partnering with Citi. Help us fight back with the Summer of Heat

It’s been another amazing week on the Summer of Heat campaign to break up fossil fuels and Wall Street Banks. On Sunday, as we told you, families went to the home of Citi CEO Jane Fraser and built a memorial to children and families displaced by climate chaos. Also as expected, several dozen people were arrested including movement organizers who were not doing anything illegal but were targeted as part of Citi’s ongoing campaign of escalation and targeting organizers with trumped up charges and false allegations.

Unbowed and with full faith in ourselves and our righteousness today clergy from several faith traditions, as well as a dozen activists and supporters, were arrested in a prayerful action back at Citi’s headquarters. More actions are planned this week as part of our “no faith in fossil fuels” week of action.

But next week, we’re expanding the campaign beyond New York by targeting the big brands that partner with Citi. If you’re in, sign this petition, urging every company that has a co-branded credit card with Citi to drop Citi and find a better banking partner.

Here’s the plan, in brief: This week we’re gathering signatures and asking you to identify whose cards and memberships you have in your wallet. Then, starting next Monday, August 5th, we will deliver these petitions to hundreds of stores and branches of those companies doing business with Citi. All across the country, we’ll urge some of Citi’s most important clients to find a better bank.

Want to find out more detail? Join the Summer of Heat Wave of Action Organizing Call tonight at 6:30pm ET / 5:30pm CT / 4:30pm MT / 3:30pm PT.

On the call, you’ll hear the latest from the Summer of Heat campaign, including how Citi has begun to harass campaign leaders with targeted arrests and trumped-up charges, and the plans for the national wave of action next week. That’s when we’ll be delivering petition signatures to local outlets like Costco, LL Bean, Macy’s, Home Depot, Best Buy, Sears, AT&T & more calling on them to break up with dirty Citibank.

Thousands of you have joined us in the streets and more than 450 people have been arrested as part of the Summer of Heat so far. And next week things are about to get a lot bigger, and there will be a lot more places to take action. So if you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to jump in and support us, now’s the time!
