Ban the Bomb Trains: Comment now to stop LNG by rail

This is the last week to stop a fossil fuel project, LNG by rail, in its TRACKS! The fossil fuel industry has been getting away with transporting explosive and flammable liquefied natural gas (LNG) by rail since the Trump Administration. These “bomb trains” put millions of people in harm’s way and threaten our climate.

Pete Buttigieg, President Biden’s Transportation Secretary, recently proposed a rule to suspend transport of some LNG by rail — but it’s not a repudiation of the Trump rule and it won’t end this dangerous process. That’s why we need you to join us and the Build Back Fossil Free team to submit comments before December 23rd to tell the Biden administration to ban ALL LNG transport by rail!

This is about climate and an environmental justice: In Florida, 40% of people who live within three miles of proposed gas facilities are low income or people of color. In Gibbstown NJ, a proposed gas export facility would require LNG bomb trains to travel through dozens of PA towns – from the fracking fields. And in Robeson county North Carolina, an LNG facility is planned for the same communities (mostly black and indigenous) who fought off the Atlantic Coast pipeline – and sure enough, it’s right on a rail line.

Rail lines transporting LNG to and from these facilities are a direct threat to already marginalized communities. It’s past time for the Biden administration to keep its promise to stop permitting pollution and deliver relief to the environmental justice communities hit first and worst by climate and environmental disasters.

No matter where you live, LNG bomb trains are a risk to us all. Most LNG is destined for export, and all of it drives fracking, factory farming, and climate chaos. It’s a toxic cycle that must be stopped.

Send a comment now demanding that the Biden administration ban ALL rail transport of LNG before the deadline of December 23rd!
